One More Cold Night

High temperatures today reached the low 40s for much of the area. We will see one more cold night as clear skies and calm winds set up an environment favorable for radiation cooling overnight. Temperatures have already dropped into the upper 20s inland and lower 30s along the coast. I expect overnight temperatures to get down into the low to mid 20s inland and lower 30s along the coast. Freeze warnings have been issued for Dare and Hyde counties as these areas are expected to drop to their lowest temperatures of the season.

High temperatures will begin to increase as high pressure to the north exits the coast and we see a return of southerly flow to begin next week. Highs on Sunday look to be around upper 40s to lower 50s. Sunday night temperatures only drop a few degrees cooler than daytime highs with most areas remaining in the lower 40 range.

A coastal trough is forecast to develop during the day on Sunday. Conditions of Sunday will be sunny with some increase in clouds during the afternoon. As we go into the day Monday, models continue to indicate that there should be adequate low level lift to produce a few rain showers mainly confined to coastal coastal locations though cannot rule out a chance in some of the inland counties.

A cold front will approach the area Monday afternoon/evening time frame which looks to be a little moisture starved when it reaches our area. Once again, I can’t rule out a shower or two at the time of its passage and the coverage will be isolated at best.

From there we will see a series of disturbances that will move through the area that will increase our chances of seeing some rain Monday-Thursday. Rainfall amounts will remain on the light side with these disturbances. The high temperatures for this week calls for a warm start (lower 60s on Monday) and a cold end. (lower 40s on Thursday).

I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
