How the air tends to feel
Dew point is usually more useful than relative humidity for judging how much moisture is actually in the air. Relative humidity changes substantially as temperature changes; dew point tracks the moisture content more directly.
Typically feels crisp or dry.
Noticeable moisture but generally comfortable.
Humidity becomes increasingly noticeable.
A distinctly humid air mass for most people.
Muggy tropical moisture becomes prominent.
The number changes more slowly than relative humidity
Relative humidity describes how close the air is to saturation at its current temperature. Dew point answers a different question: how much water vapor is actually present. That makes it especially useful for comparing air masses across Eastern North Carolina.
