Data information & limitations

Temperature shading uses GFS 2 m or selected pressure-level air temperature (°F); wind streamlines remain wind speed/direction. Missing temperature fields are left transparent. Temperature is forecast model data, not observations.
Mean sea-level pressure shading and 4 mb isobars show modeled GFS pressure reduced to sea level—not station pressure or upper-air geopotential height. Pressure is available over Surface Wind only. Contour accuracy is limited by forecast grid spacing.
Wind gust shading shows modeled peak 10 m gusts (mph) during the preceding hour, not sustained wind. Animated streamlines still represent 10 m sustained-wind vectors. Forecast gust values are provided via Open-Meteo from NOAA GFS; blank cells indicate missing gust data.
Sea-surface temperature is NOAA/NCEI daily 0.25° OISST, an analysis of satellite and in-situ measurements. SST observation dates can differ from the separately displayed satellite-derived ocean-current date. SST contours are analyses, not forecast positions or water transport.
Particle movement illustrates vector direction. Animation playback speed is adjustable and does not represent real elapsed time. This visualization is not for navigation or safety-critical decisions.
Surface convergence/divergence is computed from neighboring NOAA GFS 10 m wind vectors using spherical-coordinate spatial derivatives. Values are approximate and depend strongly on the spacing of the displayed sample grid. Negative means horizontal convergence; positive means divergence. It does not directly measure precipitation, thunderstorms, or vertical motion. Missing neighbors and grid edges are left blank.
Upper-air relative vorticity is derived locally from adjacent horizontal wind vectors of the selected model, using the spherical-earth curl and a 3×3 central-difference stencil. Positive = counterclockwise rotation; negative = clockwise rotation. In the Northern Hemisphere, positive is cyclonic relative vorticity and negative is anticyclonic. It is not absolute vorticity, potential vorticity, vertical velocity, or a direct severe-weather predictor. Sample-grid spacing limits accuracy substantially, especially in large regional views. Cell boundaries and missing neighbors remain transparent.
