Lower Temperatures For Today, Interest In Tropics
After another warm day on Saturday, temperatures will be on the decrease today as a cold front is dipping over Eastern North Carolina. This will bring cooler temperatures from north to south where there will be a 10+ temperature gradient near the front.
Short term models have temperatures ranging from 70F to the north and 80+ to the south of the cold front. The best chance to see 80+ temperatures should be confined south of a line from Lumberton to Wilmington.
Temperatures for the rest of the week should remain in the upper 70s over most of ENC with some areas potentially seeing 80.
Tropics
As for the tropics, things remain somewhat quiet with Lisa gone and Karl rapidly work its way north far from the Eastern US.
We are watching 97L that has formed in the southern North Atlantic Ocean. Development of this system would be slow to occur and many factors need to be in place for this system to become the next tropical cyclone. If it does maintain some organization when it reaches the Carribean, conditions will be considerable favorable for rapid intensification. Some models explode this system as it approaches an upper level anti-cyclone which would aid in rapid development. Agreement among the models do differ with potential track of this system with some having a more northerly track and some with a southerly track as it rides among the southern edge of a ridge in the central Atlantic.
Needless to say it is very early and most unknowns with this system. I will continue to monitor this storm and provide updates frequently.
