Christmas Day/Weekend Forecast
Update (12-23-16 @ 11:30 AM): No changes to my forecast at this time. Rain still forecast to leave the region Saturday afternoon into early evening. High pressure still forecast to build in from the north with surface winds out of the northeast. Will post this evening though the forecast most likely will not change.
A dry cold front will be moving through the area this evening with temperatures overnight into the low to mid 30s. High pressure builds into the area on Friday following the front keeping temperatures cooler than today’s temperatures. We can expect high temperatures to range in the low to mid 50s inland and upper 50s along the coast under mostly sunny skies.
We will see another system moving into the area Saturday morning with high temperatures rising into the low 60s. Rain chances will increase at that time from west to east as the day goes along and end from west to east during the afternoon with most rain out of the area by early evening. Forecast totals right now will be in the 0.01-0.10″ range over the southern two-thirds of ENC to 0.10-0.25″ range over the far northern ENC.
Christmas Day should remain dry in wake of the passing cold front. High pressure will build into the area from the north. Northeasterly winds will keep temperatures down a couple of degrees especially over northeastern North Carolina. High temperatures will be around the lower 50s over the northeastern sections, mid to upper 50s inland, and near 60 over far southern regions.
Temperatures rebound for the beginning of next week.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and safe travels to your destinations!
