High temperatures today will reach into the lower to mid 50s from a northerly flow from high pressure to the north.

Late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning we will start to see clouds moving into ENC from the west. During this time there is a slight chance of some drizzle in some areas during the early morning. The bulk of the precipitation will arrive Sunday afternoon and evening as a small shortwave trough races over the area along the eastern side of the longwave trough. Rainfall totals are forecast to remain below half an inch before ending late Monday morning from east to west. Monday afternoon should be dry as we enter a quick lull before the next system moves into the area.

Early Tuesday morning, rain will begin to build back in to the area from southwest to northeast ahead of the next system. Aloft we will see an increase of moisture advecting over the area above a dome of cooler air “wedged” east of the mountains from northerly flow of high pressure to the north.

The forecast profile above shows this dome and southerly flow very well. Also worth noting the omega values at this time indicated decent lift increasing the chance of widespread heavy rainfall late Monday night into Early Tuesday morning. The GFS adds another 0.75″ to 1.00″ of rain on top of totals from earlier resulting in an overall forecast total between 1.25″ to 2.0″ in some areas. The rain should move away from the area from southwest to northeast Tuesday evening and overnight.

A shot of very cold air makes its way south giving us the chance to seeing high temperatures only reaching the low 40s by the weekend.
