New Year’s Day Forecast
The rain that moved through the area earlier today is now pushing off the coast and skies are beginning to clear. Radar estimates show rainfall totals from this morning to be 0.50″-1.00″ along and south of highway 264 and lesser amounts north. The weather station in Greenville, NC measured 0.67″ for the day. This brings the year to date total to 81.63″ where that total is unlikely to increase before the end of 2016.
Tonight, temperatures will drop into the low to mid 30s over north and west, mid to upper 30s over the south and east, and lower 40s along the immediate coast. Skies will remain clear with winds out of the west. Gale warnings and small craft advisories have been issued for coastal and marine locations.
Friday will be cooler with temperatures struggling to make it near 50. Wind speeds will begin to subside Friday night allowing low temperatures to drop into the mid to upper 20s inland and lower 30s along the immediate coast.
New Year’s Eve will be sunny with high temperatures only making it into the low to mid 50s.
Clouds will begin to increase New Year’s Day as a coastal trough develops off the Carolina coast. This trough begins to move inland as a warm front increasing rain chances across ENC late Sunday night and into Monday morning. Rain will continue to cover the area for most of Monday and Monday night ahead of the next cold front.
Forecast becomes a little more active by the end of next week with the models showing a series of short wave troughs moving across the region.
I hope everyone has a safe weekend and Happy New Year’s to you and your family!
