Cooler Temperatures And More Rain

The heavy showers and a few embedded thunderstorms worked their way through ENC earlier today and have moved offshore. One of those thunderstorms prompted a tornado warning for New Hanover County. No tornado has been reported from that storm. Most of the heavy rain occurred right near the coastal sections with the Outer Banks south of Kitty Hawk seeing the greatest totals (0.50″-1.00″). This area includes the city of Wilmington which reported 1.02″.

Rain chances for the rest of the day have diminished considerably and we can expect dry conditions under mostly cloudy skies tonight.

Rain returns to the forecast Tuesday as another disturbance slides through the area. Rain will enter the area from the southwest and will move northeast through the afternoon. This will be a lighter event than we had on Monday.

A couple of more disturbance work their way through on Wednesday but could be far enough south to miss some of the region. Areas near Wilmington are at greater risk at seeing some rain from these systems but still a little uncertain to exact location and strength. Hard to say if there will be any impact north of there but can’t rule it out completely.

Thursday and Friday will remain dry with mostly sunny skies and much colder temperatures working into the area. Thursday night will be the coldest night of the week with temperatures dropping into the low 20s.

We will see rain return to the area this weekend with the best chance of rain occurring Sunday ahead of the next cold front to impact the area.
