Strong Storms Expected This Afternoon [5/6/18]

9:38 PM: Some heavy showers still persist over ENC but will decrease over the next few hours.

6:30 PM: All Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have all expired. Strong storms with gusty winds and heavy downpours continue to occur across the area. I will keep monitoring the situation and if anything catches my eye I will continue to post.

6:11 PM: Storm in Wayne County remains the only severe storm in ENC. The other storms, while not at severe criteria, still could produce gusty winds.

5:55 PM: Line of storms appear to be developing along the old outflow boundary (red line) of the previously severe storms to the north.

5:47 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Wayne County. I figure the initial trimming of the Johnston/Wayne County warning occurred right before the original expiration time. New warning was issued to extend expiration time to 6:30 PM.

5:47 PM: Strong thunderstorms continue across ENC.

5:45 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been cancelled for Wayne County. The storm is no longer at severe criteria.

5:45 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning cancelled for Johnston County. The storm has moved out of the area. Warning still in effect for Wayne County.

5:35 PM: Severe thunderstorm still moving eastward across Wayne County.

5:30 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Nash and Edgecombe was allowed to be expired at 5:30 PM. Strong thunderstorms continue to push eastward over the next few hours. Warning still in effect for Wayne and Johnston Counties.

5:00 PM: And as I say that a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the storms pictured below. This time it is for Wayne and Johnston counties until 5:45 PM.

4:57 PM: Scattered thunderstorms moving eastward just south of the line of storms over northern NC. These storms are not severe at this time but closely monitor as they move east.

4:55 PM: Severe storm continues to push eastward.

4:35PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning cancelled for Warren County. The storm has moved out of the warned area.

4:25 PM: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Nash, Warren, Edgecombe, and Halifax Counties until 5:30 PM.

4:22PM: These storms are expected to continue through 7:00 PM with weaken afterwards with loss of daytime heating.

4:17 PM: Scattered storms to the south of the line of storms mentioned before. These storms remain below severe criteria at this time.

4:15PM: The SPC has placed portions of ENC into the Slight Risk for severe storms this afternoon and into early evening. A line of storms have developed over central NC and are currently moving east. There has been one severe thunderstorm warning associated with this line but has not drawn any warnings over the past hour. These storms have the potential to produce damaging winds and large hail. More updates as needed.
