Severe Weather Threat For Wednesday Night

7:35 PM: The line of heavy showers and thunderstorms are now reaching the far western portions of ENC. Some of these storms have been severe over central NC but appear to be weakening with loss of day time heating. These are still strong thunderstorms capable of producing high winds, heavy rain, and lightning however the severe threat is quickly diminishing across ENC.

I will continue to monitor this system and provide any updates as needed.

A line of showers and thunderstorms associated with a cold front are moving into central NC. Areas to the west are currently under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10:00 PM Wednesday night. We have seen numerous severe thunderstorm warnings associated with this line of storms as it continues to move east.

These storms will begin to enter ENC later tonight and move through the area through the overnight hours. By this time instability will have decreased with the loss of daytime heating and we should see weakening with this line of storms by the time it reaches our area. Strong deep layer shear indicates the potential of strong damaging winds with some of these storms as they pass through.

While the potential for tornadoes is weak an isolated tornado is still a possibility. Make sure you have access to a NOAA weather radio or other source overnight to alert you to any weather alerts in your area.

I will be keeping an eye on the threat tonight and will update with any important information relating to severe weather. All information directly from me will appear on this site while the Twitter account will be using the automatic post feature for weather alerts only.
