Sunday’s Forecast
The forecast for Sunday is high confidence but feel the need to make sure everyone is clear as to the precipitation type over ENC on Sunday. With the next shortwave energy moving through the southern stream will lead to a surface low to move over northern Florida and then off the east coast.
Sometimes with these type of systems we have to worry about precipitation type. In this case we do not. Some cold air will be in place across the area but surface temperatures look to remain above freezing as the low passes off the North Carolina coast. Precipitation types become an issue over central and western parts of the state where there could be snow or mix of rain and snow.
The low will be racing northeast so any precipitation that occurs will be light and quick.
Bottom line as far as ENC is concerned: expect light rain midday before exiting the coast by early evening. Forecast totals should be in the .10″-.25″ range at most.
Snow could begin moving eastward towards the end of the event. Areas in the far western and northern sections of ENC could see a brief changeover before ending this evening. Little to no accumulations expected.
