River Level Updates For Tuesday

Update: Updated river forecast graphics for most recent forecasts.

Not a lot of new information to report as flooding continues across ENC. The Tar River at Greenville is continuing to rise to a forecast level of 24.1′ (update: 24.9′). The river is forecast to crest on Wednesday afternoon. While the river is slightly less that originally forecast the danger has not diminished. The evacuation orders remain in effect and there are no changes to those orders during the next couple of days.

Regarding the Tar River in Tarboro and Greenville, the river is continuing to rise at both locations and what is concerning is the Tar River in Tarboro is continuing to rise despite exceeding the forecast crest depth. Flooding there should begin to fall soon but the damage has been done. This indicates that more water than previous forecast could increase the forecast levels in Greenville than currently forecast so don’t get complacent because the current forecast is lower than previous forecasts. There is a chance it could still rise above this forecast.

The most troubling thing that has come from this situation is the number of deaths related to Matthew which is currently at 14. There have been over 2,000 water rescues over the past couple of days once again stresses the importance of taking this situation seriously. Please do not put yourself in dangers way. Do not take this situation lightly. Respect road closures and evacuation orders as they are in place to protect lives.

If there is anymore information I will update here or on Twitter @encweather.

Stay safe!
