The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Beaufort County in eastern North Carolina…
Central Craven County in eastern North Carolina…
Pamlico County in eastern North Carolina…

* Until 1215 AM EDT.

* At 723 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the
warned area. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. The
expected rainfall rate up to 1.5 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional
rainfall amounts of 2 to 6 inches are possible in the warned area
through midnight. Flash flooding is already occurring in portions
of the warned area, and will be occuring shortly in other areas.

HAZARD…Life threatening flash flooding. Heavy rain producing
flash flooding.

SOURCE…Radar.

IMPACT…Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
New Bern, Havelock, Washington, River Road, James City, Trent
Woods, Belhaven, Ransomville, Pinetown, Pungo, Blounts Creek,
Pamlico Beach, Cayton, Lowland, Askins, Florence, Royal, Edward,
Bonnerton and South Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
