The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for…
Harnett County in central North Carolina…
Cumberland County in central North Carolina…
Lee County in central North Carolina…

* Until 700 PM EDT

* At 551 PM EDT, a line of severe thunderstorms was moving in from
the southwest. The leading edge of the storms were located from
Pembroke to Raeford, moving north at 60 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include…
Fayetteville, Sanford, Lillington, Fort Bragg, Dunn, Angier,
Godwin, Pope AFB, Hope Mills and Spring Lake.


A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can
develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not
immediately likely, if one is spotted, act quickly and move to a
place of safety inside a sturdy structure such as a basement or small
interior room.

Straight line winds can blow down trees, power lines, and damage
mobile homes and other buildings. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure
until the storm has passed. Stay away from windows as flying debris
generated by damaging winds can be deadly.
