Warmer Temperatures Expected Next Couple Of Days

Local Forecast

surface-analysis

Quiet weather for today as a storm system across the central US brings a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and wintry precipitation. Highs today ranged in the mid to upper 50s with high pressure firmly in control.

temps

We can expect clear skies tonight with low temperatures dipping once again into the upper 20s inland and mid 30s along the coast. A freeze warning is in effect in Carteret County through tonight until 8:00 AM Wednesday.

On Wednesday, high temperatures will rise a little higher as high pressure continues to dominate the region. The high will push offshore to the north late Wednesday ahead of an approaching cold front. High temperatures should range in the mid 50s to near 60.

The next cold front will approach the region on Thanksgiving with a slight increase in the chance of light showers during the day. Temperatures will rise even more due to southerly flow ahead of the front. The front will push offshore late Thursday night and into early Friday morning. Cold air advection will not follow accompany this front so we can expect temperatures on Friday to be about the same as Thursday.

Another cold front will push through the region late Friday evening. Moisture associated with this front appears limited so the chances of showers during this time remain very low. Cold air will follow this front with highs on Saturday and Sunday to remain in the mid to upper 50s.

Western NC Fires

The fires in western NC continue to burn while crews work to contain these fires. The weather forecast, at least for the short term, won’t be doing the crews any favors as we continue this dry streak at least for another week. The cold front that will pass ENC Thursday and Friday will not have enough moisture to create any significant rain to help out. The next significant rainfall in the forecast won’t occur until early next week but the long term forecast does show a little hope on the horizon. The GFS and Euro are hinting at a more active weather pattern by next week and into the first part of December. We will still have to wait to see if this forecast does actually verify but things are looking better.
