Matthew Moving Eastward

14l-radar7

Matthew’s rain is moving eastward with the heaviest rain over northeastern NC. This heavy rain will last for another couple of hours as Matthew moves away from the coast.

For areas where the rain is moving out, the winds continue to gust to tropical storm force and with very saturated grounds expect some trees to fall. It will take several hours for this wind to move offshore so it is still not safe for travel.

Recent reports have rainfall totals in excess of 10″ across the coastal plains and central NC. Flash flooding has been an issue as there is a report of cars bring stranded at the intersection of Firetower and Arlington in Greenville, NC. There is a curfew for Pitt County and other counties across the state. Please listen to your local officials for information if it is safe to travel.

The main focus after Matthew passes will be the flooding of rivers across ENC. Right now the forecast for the Tar River in Greenville is forecast to be near Hurricane Floyd levels. As someone who lived through Floyd, this is very bad! If you are anywhere near the Tar River, leave when you can.
