How to use these models: Below is a list of available forecast models for public viewing. To view a forecast model run, find the model you wish to view from the left column, then find the applicable run time (in UTC) you wish to view. If the model run hasn’t occurred yet, the previous run for that time will be visible. If a model has run and it is pulling up an old run, click refresh and the new run should be visible.
Once you click on the run you wish to view, wait for the page to load. All the images available will preload in the background when the page loads. Depending on your computer and internet connectivity limitations, this process could take longer than average. Just be patient and all images will preload. It is best to let the images preload first to assure easy viewing.
Once the images have preloaded, you will notice a black bar with numbers and parameters listed in it. Hover your mouse over these numbers (or hours from model initiation) to view the image you wish to view. These will appears as links as you mouse over them but do not click these links as they were intended for mouse-over use only.
These pages were made for computers with large screens. If you find that these models do not fit your screen, all you have to do is adjust the zoom level in your browser.
Model run times (00Z, 06Z, 12Z, 18Z) do not update at those times. These are times when the models are initiated. The computers will still need to collect data and run them through programs that will compile results of several computations and give a model solution that will then be visible for public use. This process takes a couple of hours to complete fully. For example, the 00Z GFS model would be normally completed by 04:20Z (over 4 hours later). This part of the site displays the forecast models that meteorologist use to help generate their forecast. It is important to note that these models are for guidance use only and should not be the major factor in determining what action to take in the event of an emergency. This information should be obtained by your local emergency management service or the NWS. It is recommended that no one who hasn’t had training in using these forecast models to just rely on trained professional forecasts.
