Flood waters continue to rise over several locations across the east. Most notably are the Tar River in Greenville and the Neuse River in Kinston.

Pitt County:

Greenville bridges update: NCDOT closing 1 south-bound lane of the Memorial Rd. bridge near the airport. Rest of bridge still open for now.

Lenoir County:

Water has made its way to Highway 264 near Exit 75 (near Hwy 43 and Hwy 33). Officials say it is likely to be closed tonight.

The waters will continue to rise overnight and tomorrow morning. By mid-day the river is forecast to crest at 25.1 feet on Thursday afternoon. This forecast could change at any time so it is important that any action you can take to protect your life should be implemented immediately. If you did leave your home, do not return until you are given clearance to do so. This measures are in place to protect you and emergency officials that would be needed to rescue you from a dangerous situation.

After the river crests flooding will continue to be an issue as the waters will take some time to recede. Over the next couple of days, it will be important to monitor the situation and do not expect to go back home until the area has been clear.

The airport is still closed due to the flood and will take some time to reopen to the public.

I will continue to monitor the situation and update accordingly.
